Quick fix or new headlight?

Hey everyone, got a bit of an odd problem here, i am in the process of putting my own projector HID lights in my peanut headlights following a DIY from rexnet.

http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index.php?showtopic=110782&hl=projector

i just removed my headlights and i have found the passenger side (LHS) housing is half melted underneath...
It already has an after market HID kit and the ballast was mounted directly underneath the headlight (see pic bellow)
Could the ballast of melted the case?
or could it be because the headlights have been blackened therefor have been pulled apart in the past and the person doing it melted it in the ovan?

Pick of the melted light with good light behind

Is there anyway to repair it enough to do the HID projector conversion and stop all water getting inside? or is time to find a new/second hand case, if a new/second hand one is needed, where could i purchase just a case, or do i need to buy the whole thing?

any info would be greatly appreciated - let me know if more pics are required

Get a replacement one.
Start by calling Japanese wholesale spares (JWS).

EDIT: just remembered you're in K-town.
Either way, give Japanese wholesale spares a shot, and courier it up. Or PM me and I'll bring it up next swing.

For a start, assuming the ballast in the picture above is your actual ballast, ballasts don't get THAT hot.. and even if it did, you'd think that all the surrounding connectors and rubber bits in the photo would have melted also.. and the paper sticker on the ballast would be at least discoloured.

Secondly, the sikaflex sealing the headlight looks to be intact.. that would have melted and dripped out also.

Thirdly, the headlight seems melted over a larger area than the ballast actually covers, so it probably melted in the oven.

Get a replacement headlight.

Depending on condition, you may be able to source one from a wrecker that's been damaged 'i.e cracked lens', for free or next to nothing!

Say something along the lines of 'Need something that's still structurally intact', as I'm moulding a widebody or new from end set up, but I don't want to damage my existing headlights.

P.S: Back Story on AJAYJAY spec lights?

i was just looking at your headlights, it appears that it has been burned or somehow exposed to extreme heat.....pretty interesting......
