I've smelt both smoke machines and burning coolant and they are very similar, I'd be looking for a coolant leak, maybe around the bottom radiator hose, could have cracked something.

I wouldn't be driving around without getting the car properly checked out after such an incident....

^^^ whs, losing coolant leads to overheating, leads to farked engine, get it checked out asap and don't let the overflow tank run dry, hopefully just a hose although it could be the radiator where the hoses bolt to it, they are prone to cracking there

Getting fletchers to have a look at it tomorrow -- i think they'll send me to MMS to check up on the engine.

I've kept the coolant up since, it hasnt drained completely. it goes slowly though. Car hasn't overheated at all, no lights. keeping the coolant full won't really do much justice till i can get it in the workshop, or will it?
