Default GC8 2 pot rear upgrade

Gday folks,
I have done some searching and couldn't uncover the info that i wanted.

I have a 97 WRX with 1 pot rears, looking to upgrade to 2 pot rears from 01 onwards. Dont worry doing 4 pot fronts as well.

Understand i need 290mm rotors, different pads but from my readings it seems i either need to change hubs and backing plates or use dogbones(such as http://www2.kartboy.com/x4/product.p...cat=253&page=1).

Any one able to help shed some light on the matter for me.
Thanks.

I have 4/2 pots from an 04 WRX.
same hubs and rears have dogbones
I dont think you need to change the rotors tho.

My rotors need changing anyway, right on the spec for wear.

Did you buy aftermarket dogbones or make your own?

Thanks

I did my conversion over 2 months ago and manage to get brand new 04 backing plates with brand new bearing pressed into 98 hubs both sides $500 from A-part.

yeah it's better to convert to the later rear hubs so you can use the larger rotors. Dogbone adaptors allow you to stick with your original hubs but the brakes won't be as good, and you have to buy the adaptors.
Hard to find the hubs though but keep looking. I got my 2pot hubs, backing plates and rotors for 200 bucks off a guy selling them - he responded to my wanted add on this forum.

If i upgrade the rotors for a 2 pot rear, will the handbrake brake shoes still work with the rotor or will that need to be changed?

all handbrakes shoes are the same right up to 04. You just need to know which way your going first.

yep I put all my existing handbrake stuff into the larger late model rotor no worries, and my stuff is all 1990 Gen1 legacy.

as said before, by the hubs with good bearings, or replace
bolt them on and away you go
