What next? Advice for a newbie

Hi guys

The more I read the forums the more confused I am becoming...

What is the next step? I will need to save for my next upgrade, $1500.00 tops
but what do I buy or where to go from here?

I am running 17.1psi - any more at the moment causes the engine to cut at ~5500rpm in 3rd, 4th. I have an Apexi pod kit, 3" system from turbo back and using a Gizzmo EBC.

When does injectors and replacing the fuel pump become an issue?

Providing I can learn how to launch properly, my aim is a flat 13sec 1/4...

Thanks in advance :)

Your stock injectors and fuel pump will be fine for the stock turbo.

Your $1500 is best spent on an ECU, or saving towards an ECU. For the $1500 ECU option you could get an EcuTeK which is basically a remap of your stock computer. Other option is to save a while longer and get something like an Autronic SM4 or MoTeC M800, both of which are about $3000-3500 drive in, drive out.

Hope that helps!

PS - I don't think you will get a flat 13 on the stock turbo in a GD chassis, but you will get a low 13 with all bolt on stuff done.

get a LINK ecu, will pick it up AND get it tuned for 1500.

Don't forget the cost of tuning, can get fucckin expensive.

and buy shares in BP :)

nah seriously, any ECU first is going to give you more power then -ANY- other initial bolt on modification.

Cool....EcuTek sounds very promising.

If I am thinking of purchasing a larger TMIC am I best to get the ECU done at the same time?
Or is it inexpensive to have a tune "update" once you have bought the "tune"?

Get the intercooler first, then ECU and you'll save money in the long run by not having to get it retuned for a second time. Retuning can cost quite a bit.

I'm assuming then everything will run fine with a larger TMIC until I can save up for the tune?

as far as i know it should be fine... someone else would know better than me on this forum. If you lay off the boost until you get the ECU should have no problems at all

had better fuel economy with my link than the Motec, so far...mind you I also had about 70hp less...

I would have to say, go with a REMAP.

The stock ECU is fairly powerful and has an excellent closed loop operation to maintain fuel economy. Injector sizing is also not much of a worry as stock ecu's support Injector Scaling which means you can run any size injectors you want. Boost Control, Ignition control, Fuel Control what more could you ask for :)

If you are worried about CEL's etc , you can selectively disable the code

IE

P2040 - Cat Inefficency can be disabled by a "05 00 00" code

Leaving you with all other ODBII codes intact.

Motec, Link, Autronic are all fairly good aftermarket ECU's (each has their own merits and i wont startup the whole motec, autronic, link flame war). If you were to run advanced features such as Antilag, Launch control blah blah.. i would then say go for an aftermarket ecu.

Ahh yes.. as for link offering better economy over a motec.

Get your tuner to recheck his/her tune, maybe something is up with your engine.
