DIY Throttle Body Coolant Bypass Mod
Taken from Rexnet.
http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index...nt-bypass-mod/ On our cars hot radiator coolant flows through the throttle body, this is mainly for colder climates in which it is that cold that the air fuel mixture is frozen. The idea of the coolant is to keep the throttle body/intake manifold hot enough to prevent this from happening. Procedure for MY97-MY00 To perform the mod you will need to purchase the following: 3/8" hose coupler and 1/2 a metre of 5/16" Fuel Hose (optional but recommended). It is a good idea to perform this mod when the car is cold as there will be less coolant in the upper hoses of the engine and nothing will be hot! Firstly remove the intercooler and place rags and old newspaper around the throttle body to prevent spillage when the coolant hoses are distrurbed. Here you can clearly see the two coolant hoses that enter and exit the throttle body assembly on either side. We want to remove both these hoses and couple them together using the hose coupler to stop hot coolant from entering the throttle body. Using a pair of plyers move the hose clamps along on both coolant hoses. Grab a flat screwdriver and break the seal whilst pulling at the hose to remove it from the throttle body barbs. Connect both coolant lines together using the hose coupler and return the clamps to their original positions to prevent any weaping. Now the final step is optional but good for preventing dirt from entering the coolant passage of the throttle body and lieing in there. Using the 5/16" fuel hose connect both barbs together to create a loop.

That gallery only warms the lower section of the throttle body where the butterfly sits at closed throttle....to prevent icing/ throttle sticking.
Ice forms due to air flow/pressure drop (vacuum)/humidity....nothing to do with ambient temps. Zero HP gain.

Doing this mod will cause issues with -6 temps.
Any real world gains with this?

i played with this years ago and didnt notice anything better, so i kept it plumbed up.
subaru have had coolant circulating through the throttle/carby since the very first cars, probably has a lot to do with emissions at low rpm and improving fuel economy with a better burn of fuel.
