you're right, and also if it was a pulley it most likely would have shredded the belt by now

No stress, the majority of us on here are just enthusiasts. I wish i knew half as much as some of the blokes on here. I'm a lowly uni student myself haha.

sound is definitely coming from the alternator, and i've replaced both belts with new, its nothing really worrying, just wanted to see if anyone had the same problems.

also another noise is occurring, its more of a random clacking noise coming from the engine/ gearbox area. it only happens when its at operating temp, and anywhere from about 2k rpm and all load levels, even decelerating.. I cant, for the life of me, figure out what it is!

it's like the sound of a big detonation/ knock... its not running hot...

oh and its an auto too.

wow thats nothing compared to the timming belt on the engine im building up atm looked like. image the timming belt which is pretty long just rapped around the crank pulley.
