Default engine rattle like WRXII

I have the same problem as WRXII with the engine rattle but mine only happens when i switch my car off, and it happens for about a second...

not to sure what it could be, starting to really piss me off, so suggestions?

Maybe its the same thing as WRXII but im not to sure, if it was a heat shield it would happen all the time, so maybe its just 1 thing thats loose?

Also when my car is on idle it shutters, and it feels like im in a massage chair, not a really insane massage chair but at lights on idle it seems to hapen... suggestions on this please?

Also after driving say 30 km's or more, my cars idle will move up and down from 100 RPM to roughly 1100 RPM, im thinking AFM, pretty sure it's not a boost leak or vaccum line leak as i have checked and replaced all old hosing with brand new blue silicone hoses...

All suggestions will be much appreciated...

Cheers Jason,

XD

yeah give the AFM a good dose of electrical contact cleaner, then leave it to dry in a nice place over night. A dirty AFM can cause all sorts of issues.. Dont be afraid to give it a good soak with some PROPER electrical cleaner, not crc or anything like that. That may sort out ur idle rpm and massage chair like symptoms mate.

good luck boss

will

If your car is feeling shaky at idle then it could possibly be shagged engine mounts. :/

Also, if it's not the afm and cleaning it doesn't work it could be the IACV. I THINK there's a thread somewhere to see how to clean that with carby cleaner. Give the technical section a search.

Dick Smiths is probably the easiest place to get it, only takes 5min to dry. DON'T use carby cleaner on the afm.

Do you have an in-guard CAI? If so, it can get a bit loose over time and rattle against the bodywork when the car is switched off. The rough idle is another issue all together...

Rough/hunting idle, I would take the car to a subaru specialist.

Bit hard to diagnose that over a forum. They can also look at the noise and find out what is happening there.

Do you have aftermarket headers on your car? The noise after switching off could be an exhaust leak. Along with 100 other things it could be.

no i dont hav in-guard CAI on my car, and i currently am running stock headers.

i would go to subaru specialists but i dont want to get charged an arm and a leg, if it is a exhaust leak, would changing the whole exhaust help? because the car came with a 3" mild steel TBE with S/Steel HKS cannon muffler, im planing on replacing for full S/Steel TBE pretty soon...

as kato said, the hunting idle is not going to be solved very quickly over the internet, even if someone can diagnose it, i don't like your chances of fixing it. Its exactly the same as the rattle, there are so many thing it could be, starting threads like this is quite pointless. Take it to a workshop, but call ahead and don't just drop in unannounced. Most of the workshops in wa are run by really nice blokes who know their stuff.

Plus, according to your forsale thread, p-wrxers are a pack of cunts so no one is going to help you.
