If you're after a bit of noise, just remove the resonator in the front guard. Free mod!

I had a look at what ecutek had to say and on there web site it says the type 2 is for cars with cai exhausts..... They also say there is no danger in doin mods after the tune as they work with the existing ecu and leave room to move in terms of limits. Would that be right

In doing what mods?
ECUTek can expect a change of injectors, turbo, front mount intercooler, wastegate actuator, stroker kits etc with a type 2 tune? Awesome! For the whole mods/tune debate I would use common sense judgement. Items that effect fueling or air flow into or out of your engine WILL effect the tune. However, since things like the environment keep changing there are safety factors in your factory ECU to prevent a car going pop because it just drove up the side of a mountain. This is why people say you can do certain things without tuning. It is also why you don't make any power from untuned mods (the ECU goes into a safe mode, just like windows and won't max out your performance). So can you drive untuned, yes. Is it the best thing to do, not really. Where is the limit on where I should drive untuned? Up to you. Will I get sympathy from any workshop/forum when my car goes pop after running a bleed valve at 25psi with all my other mods untuned? No. (P.S. I am aware this is a mega over generalisation of what goes on with the ECU, but just an easy way to explain it).

hey guys
I just purchased an 06 STI with one of these installed and I want to change it back to the stock airbox and snorkel as im not a fan of the induction noise. its got an ECUtek III tune and i wouldnt be able to get it retuned for a few weeks so my question is, is there risk of any damage by just going from CAI back to stock airbox without a retune? or am i fairly safe? cheers |

Just on this note as well as per above, wondering a similar thing. Going from APS 65mm (stock intake size), back to the OEM airbox. Retune required? The AFM should still be able to figure it out the ECU should scale fuel ratios accordingly?
Car is tuned (Verso), with the APS CAI, Silicone intake etc. There isn't a great deal (if any) of flow difference, (just noise), so I would have thought I would be safe going back to the stock box with the resonator removed.
