It's definitely the original 207.
I've just checked the original delivery paperwork, the engine number on the block matches this original paperwork.

Heads are shim under as expected for the VI heads & confirmed by the sodium filled valves.

There has been some conjecture on whether the version 6 207's had forged pistons from the factory.

The piston crown dish looks the same as the Wiseco's that are going into the new bottom end but they are different from the RA slugs that were in Stacey's donor shortie.

Ra forgies:

Piston line up:

Version 5 open deck, pistons are marked 'HB':

Once I have the other head off I might slip one piston out and have a look at the underside.

400HP @ the crank with either a TD05 18 0r 20g.

Flip back to the first page & you'll see I'm using a semi-closed RA block as the basis for the build.

The old 207 above was running 1.7 bar on 11.9:1 Afr's quite happily, I just pulled it as it has 240,000+ km on it & it was starting to slap a little when warm (barreled piston skirts).

The idea of doing the build is to give me more headroom in potential power & increase the reliability at the same time.

Didn't this start off as a conservative build?

Either way I like where this thread is going

^ 400 crank is (excuse me not knowing drivetrain losses in a V6 Ross) still somewhere between 320-340hp at the hubs Marc. (For comparo, in an ADM V7 there is a 28pc loss). Its not a 'huge' number, having 330-350ish at the hubs by todays standards, so you can still safely deem it 'conservative/reliable' - however - in a lightweight GC chassis, I am anticipating this car is going to move.

Quickly........................................... .

+1 for more 'starting dismantling engines at 10pm' nights... LOL. Spose I should toddle up and start work on the 'ski as well....

Brent.

The first EJ207 to have the semi closed deck was the version 7 (MY01)

....hmm...

...You build 'em, I'll race 'em?

Lovin it though. This will be a great walk-through. Already it's got detailed writing, lots of pics and best of all this thread is multiple pages with no unnecessary slandering.
Disappointed at no bathroom-spec pics yet... (i wanna see greasy head on a toilet ) <-- I probably should re-word that
Are you posting this walk-through on other forums too?

Note the ID3 valves in your photo...Sodium filled...nice! The cams are probably Group N. Are the heads shim over or under bucket, I can't confirm from the photo's? If so this makes them STi heads at least.
I'm sure all ADM turbo EJ engines have sodium filled exhaust valves. Interesting that its open deck though. Might stick with the 205 when I do mine.

I'd rather keep the cross drilled open deck 207 crank for reliability myself....

Ej205 has hollow stem exhaust valves, 207 sodium filled.

Brent & I got stuck into the remainder of the old engine strip tonight..... Let's just say "Golden!"

My engine threw a leg out of bed....LOL!
Again notice how some spanner has gone mad with silicone sealer at some stage GRRR!

She's golden....

I slipped a piston out to see if the were forgies or not:

Stamped 'HF-3' so they are forged slugs, stace's old ones are stamped HF-2....

For what its worth, when I took the sump off of mine the sealant was put on so thick there was probably a 6mil overflow bead all around it.

No sealant around the rocker covers though.
