Question Manifold Removal

Hey guys, my bugs gearbox has shat itself so its just sitting in the shed until i can afford a 6 speed, I decided to be a smartass and take out some parts in the engine bay to give it some paint, this included the intake manifold. Basically im stuck with it haha. Ive removed all the things around it that I can. Now im wondering if anyone can give me any tips, or anyone south of the river would like to give me a hand taking it out if anyones got any time for a carton of beer maybe? =P

Cheers
Dan

More information mate, you say you've removed everything around it, is it unbolted? The engines wiring harness is on the inlet manifold, you need to make sure you've unplugged everything. You will definitely need new manifold gaskets, no option there. there is also coolant lines that run through the throttle body.

Sorry, guess I was a vit vague on details, Im not a hundred percent sure whats what. Ive got the 8 bolts holding it down out, all the coolant lines (I think) got the coolant resovoir out of the way. Done most of the electrical clips that go to the injectors I think? Its just the fuel rails on the left side that have got me stumped. The right hand side is all loose, also the throttle cable, I have no idea how to pull that apart? Thats about as much detail as I can give at the moment really..

First off this will probably be a bit hard to do over the forum, you don't need to unplug the injectors or remove them, they come off with the manifold, but you need to unplug the coil packs, the cam and crank sensors, the coolant temp sensor, the knock sensor, and the pressure switch from the power steering pump. Also need to loosen off the turbo inlet duct from the compressor housing.

You need to unplug the harness itself from the car, there are plugs down near the battery on the left hand side. Plus one small one on the right near the boost control solenoid.
You need to unbolt the header tank, which you have already done, and remove it. THere are 2 coolant hoses that go to the throttle body at the back which need to be disconnected. Also need to unbolt the power steering lines from the manifold on the right. I would also unbolt the pump and lift it out the way, once the lines are unbolted.

You should also remove the alternator and unbolt the A/C compressor and move it so you can get the manifold past the A/C lines.

With the Accel and cruise control cables, there will be a part on the threaded section that has no thread, you need to undo the nut on that side and wind it back till you can get this part to slide out. Both these cables need to be fitted and adjusted properly.

Its not a 5 minute job, thats for sure, and I've probably forgotten something.

throttle cable is easy, twist the butterfly to wide open, the cable will go slack, rotate it around to the slot and it will pop out like a pushbike brake lever

Yes, there are people skilled south of the river... if you're still stuck.
