is their anyway to overcome the problem without taking the whole gearbox out?

You could try Redline Lightweight shock proof gear oil. Does wonders for slightly worn synchros.

Drain old oil overnight... smash in 4 quarts of Smurf blood. Cross your fingers.

its much cheaper even including post than buying locally

Did it help any? I also have some 4th syncro issues, double declutching is becoming a yawn.

Definitely try Redline oil before doing anything else - don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

You can try different oils but it's a short term fix, the box will eventually have to come out, I'm starting to have 3rd syncro problems.
