Default Brant car alarm not working

Hi all,

My mates has a 2004 club spec.

He tells me his alarm does not work, the keypad seems to be faulty as when.
Now when he starts the car he just has to press any button and it starts.
He tested his alarm and its goes off very softly. so something is wrong there as well.

He got recommended a guy to fix his alarm and was advised $550 to replace the siren and kaypad....

Any cheaper recommendation ?

Speak to Macey at Westside Cannington. Get it pulled out, get Autowatch put in, and keep the keypad hooked up for security reasons

ok if you take the power off main battery will the alarm still go off loudly or just very softly ?

are the alarms suppose chirp when you arm and disarm ? it never use to but now it does

also if keypad is faulty can that just be changed only and not replace the whole alarm ?

it is supposed to yes. those settings (turning beep on and off) can be done by the remote, by pressing either the lock or unlock button 6 times in a row.

Got the same problem in my MY02, press any button on keypad and it will start. On the odd occasion it does arm correctly, like 5% of the time. Arms correctly when the hijack mode is activated. Started couple months ago after flat battery.

Keen to see how he solves it.

When he sets off the alarm, is that just the soft warning alarm or the full on loud one (e.g. close boot when armed and soft warning alarm will go off, do it again and loud alarm will go off).

I think its supposed to be pretty loud... There could be a volume control of the siren somewhere within the unit. I don't know too much about them. Just either go see Subaru, or go see Macey

There is no soft warning alarm then full loud siren, the internal siren trigger's on the 02's because the keypad system arms itself independently from the main system. The main system will give warning beeps. If the system is triggered properly, then both siren's trigger.
From what both of you are describing, the keypad module, and possibly the external siren (the one under the bonnet) need replacement. This can only be done at a dealership AFAIK. CHeck to make sure the external siren is not switched off, there is a small lock on it.
