Default Removal of Intake Silencer – Imho

So I removed my intake silencer over the weekend on my 2004 WRX. I was keen to hear some turbo spool and the stock bov. I didn’t get much noise from it but it ended up being worth it for sure!

Before when I changed gears it felt like my car was waiting for a split second before accelerating again. After taking the silencer off the car it’s running a lot smoother! Between gears there is no lag at all now, perfectly smooth! Also when accelerating in 4th of 5th, the car seems to speed up more easy. Top end is also better. Before it felt restricted going around 5000 revs, now it loves to rev to 6000 without slowing down.

Also I didn’t tell my girlfriend that I did any mods to the car over the weekend, but when we went driving last night the first thing she said was “your car feels a lot smoother, it isn’t as jerky between the gears”. So yeah, it made a nice difference!

With the sound I can’t really hear any big difference…. A very slight turbo whistle sometimes, and every now and then a very low sounding bov. During the day I couldn’t hear it at all, just sounded like normal. At night I could hear it a bit better and it sounded very nice!

Im not sure if other people got the same result, but this is the result I got from removing the silencer

Yeah, tempted too, but at the moment I wanna keep the stock engine bay look. I wouldnt mind more sound, lol, but the response from removing the silencer is nice.
If the pod was in the guard and the police couldnt see the airbox, is that illegal?

Yep its meant to be enclosed, you can make one from sheet metal or buy a carbon fiber box.

Pod only needs to be secured, doesn't need to be enclosed.

Touch wood dude! I've been yellow stickered for nothing more then the fact the cop felt like it. The yellow sticker read-

Faulty wiring.

If any of you have seen my wrx, its a pristine white stock as a rock wrx. Dunno where she found some faulty wiring.. considering its still all factory wired lol.

Hi guys, relatively new to this forum, wondering where any of you guys got the how to for this mod or if you just worked it out, also for those who have done it did you take the entire unit out or just saw off the silencer?

Cheers
