Default Help me get rid of my Brant! (or find me a solution)

Hi all

i recently bought this http://ozfoz.com/for...5&hilit=moe%27s and totally love it.

however, the previous owner (nice bloke btw) had the brant alarm installed and does not have the service keys (to unlock the alarm siren). i have smsed him to ask his alarm installer (who used to work for brant) if he has keys, or of a way of disabling it.

I have some mods I want to do (steering wheel, sound system, etc) but every time i disconnect the battery, it goes off. I haven't had the patience to see if it will turn off by itself (i live in a quiet court) but if i knew it did, i would happily wait the 5, 10, 15 mins for it to shut the hell up (most likely somewhere isolate) so i can be about modding on my way

So, my options are this

1. change the alarm. dont really want to as i dont want to spend the money and the brant itself is doing a splendid job. suggestions for replacement alarm, installer in Vic, cost, etc.

2. find a solution where I can keep the brant and still do the mods required which involve disconnecting the battery

now I know this stuff is sensitive in nature and could even sound more sus as I could potentially be a thief. however, if someone in Victoria has a solution, i will be more than happy to drive my Foz to them to show them i actually own the car and have not stolen it. receipts, vic roads info, whatever, even if its just to validate i own the car so someone interstate can post me a solution, i will be more than happy.

anyway, if someone can help, please sms me on 0431 730 290 or drop me an email on sales@megapc.com.au

cheers

Alarm shouldn't sound if it is disarmed? If it is sounding when disarmed, go to alarm shop ask them what to do.

Also for curiosity, you've bought a car off OzFoz, have a Melbourne location and ask Perth-WRX for advice on the alarm? Have you asked this on OzFoz / Rexnet etc?

i can disarm it but am unable to turn it off as i dont have the service key.

brant alarms have been a cause of headaches and frustrations to many suby owners and so posting my question on most popular aussie forums (irrespective of location) should yield the best result.

the same post is up on rexnet, wrx.com.au, subyclub, etc, etc

Ah ok, just seemed 'odd' if it was only posted up on here

I've never had the system alarm on me when working on the car and I disarmed the system first.

If you need to turn the siren off, get a key off an alarm shop, Subaru or Brant direct?

brant are notoriously expensive.

i think its cheaper to have it removed and another alarm like a mongoose installed

Huh?

You want the little key that goes in the siren? Siren goes on, siren goes off.

Why the hell would you replace a whole alarm system over that?

Have you tried turning the brant into manual arming mode to ensure it is completely off before doing work? Have you tried disconnecting the siren? Have you tried muffling the siren with a pillow so it won't annoy your neighbours?

yup

i need that key. i dont have it and the previous owner that had the alarm installed doesnt have it either.

i basically cant get any work done to the car if it involves disconnecting the battery (which is bloody inconvenient)

unplugging the siren causes it to go off (presumably using its backup battery) and i would entertain the pillow idea if i knew it would eventually turn off.

ive read somewhere that letting it run out (the siren) isnt a good idea as i might not be able to start the car again.

i will try manual mode in a sec.

Have you tried any alarm shops yet for the key or if they have a key there to turn it off?

Or find a local guy with a brant to use their key? IIRC they are all the same key.

PM James aka MY00GC8 and he will more than likely be able to get you one as he works for City Subaru.

***James needs his own "If it's a Subaru Part Ask James" thread I think hahahaha

The siren issue is an easy fix. Any reputable car audio shop or alarm fitter should be able to replace the siren with another universal battery back-up siren. I've done it for plenty of Brant owners whose sirens have fallen prey to high pressure cleaners (water ingression) lost keys, etc.

Here's an example of what you need - http://www.dynamco.com.au/products_p...?model=SIR-001
