Default Apexi EL2 - non control unit type - boost gauge

Hey gents,

I bought an Apexi EL2 Boost controller from Japan a while back, and finally got around to getting it fitted last weekend. all went well, but when wired up the gauge lights up but does not measure any boost.

The unit itself was pretty simple, the gauge lead to a plug which then split into the sensor unit and then 3 wires red (constant 12v), white (illumination) and black (earth). It lights up and does the little startup sequence of the needle going all the way around and back again.. but when i drive it doesn't register anything...

The only thing i did that wasn't exactly as instructed was that i shortened the ground wire and used one of the earths in the engine bay. everything else was wired exactly as instructed.

Anyone else fitted one of these yet? I suppose it'll teach me for being cheap and not plumping for the Defi gauges and control unit!

taken from http://www.performance-wise.com/page6.htm

60mm (2.36") meter face allows for quick, accurate viewing of needle position. Cool blue illumination with red needle. Multi-angle Meter Stand allows for virtually unlimited mounting position within the cockpit. Compact wiring (3mm dia.) allows inconspicuous wiring within the cockpit. Comes with everything needed to install and connect to the EL2 System Meter Control Unit*.
Please note - This gauge will not work without the control unit as it is required to activate the EL2 Electronic Gauges (aka System meters). Up to 6 EL2 System Meters can be controlled from 1 Control Unit. The Control Unit allows for one-touch access to memory recording and replay, warning setting, and peak hold functions.
*The control unit is sold separately and is listed below.

buy yourself a ecudatascan and you will get up to 70 gauges to choose from in a rainbow of colours no less

403-A968 Mechanical Boost KPA Black (Does not use Control Box)

All the paperwork that came with it says its plug and play, no control unit required.. just need to wire up the sensor etc.

I love the look of it, and have mounted it inside one of the cup holders in the centre of my console - its out of the way which is what i wanted

Just need to get the stupid thing working. If not i'll just splurge on a control unit and a pod (probably 1 i can put into a DIN slot in the dash). but needed this to work so i can mess with the mechanical boost controller i was going to put on (bought it ages back and has been sat under my desk).

The price aside, it can also be used as a GPS unit so its a good investment.
