GC8 WRX conversion: N/A Impreza to WRX
hello everyone,
I have been looking for a GC8 WRX wagon for a while now and I can't seem to find one right for me, I have found a n/a impreza for sale but I want boost..... I am trying to work out whether I am better off to keep looking for a WRX wagon or to convert this. How much approximately will this conversion cost? Have many of these conversions been attempted before? any input would be much appreciated cheers, Blair |

Buy a WRX wagon, unless this is so cheap you cant say no.

yeah that's the thing, I am paying a lot less for this that I would be for a WRX wagon, this interior and exterior will need nothing spent on it, so all it needs is performance....
so that's what I am trying to weigh up. |

What is your budget?
I could be enticed to part with my wagon, alternatively I know of a genuine RS lib wagon that is coming up for sale shortly... |

I'd definitely buy it already turbo waste of time converting it and generally worth less when it comes time to sell

Your better off buying interstate. It will probably be similar cost and you wont have to go through the pain's of a turbo conversion, it will also be a absolute bitch to sell when that time comes

yeah it would be better to wait and buy a WRX, if you convert an n/a one then you still have to upgrade the brakes plus im sure the driveline would be different too

I think the engine internals may even be different!

Its not that hard to perform the conversion, if you have the tools, knowledge and facilities to do it. You need to do your home work though, regarding final drive ratios and such.
Easiest way is to buy a front cut and see if they will throw in a rear diff. This should come with everything you need. Remember, you will need wiring harness's, boost control hardware, ECU, the dash is different, radiators are different, you will need a WRX bonnet, unless you are going FMIC. Clutch is different, so you need all the hydraulics as most early non-turbo Impreza's use a cable. Also the front cross member is different on turbo cars And, obviously you need an exhaust too. As someone who has done a similar conversion on Liberty, I have to say its very rewarding. But remember, no matter what you do to it, its still not a WRX, and resale will reflect this. But, who buys cars just to sell them anyway?
