Wierd noises

Hey all,

Just wondering what the problem could be if when my turbo spools up it doesn't have that nice whistle noise its more of a whistle scream.

Doesn't sound quite right to me, and since it's started happening my exhaust hasn't sounded as loud as it ussually does.

By the way, car is a 1997 MY98 wrx with stock turbo.

Thanks all,
CLARKIE

boost leak. check the clamps on all the piping between the turbo and throttle body.

CLARKIE 02-06-2011 12:13 AM

Turbo and throttle body meaning all interooler piping?

And could it be a bung turbo because it doesn't feel like it's pulling as hard either.

Agreed.
Hope it is not that the turbo is on it's way out though.

Hey fsk, what kind of turbo have you got? And have meaning have would you like something for it? Nothings frer these days.

I am also taking the car to allstar garage in malaga tomorrow to have them take it for a quick test drive round the block.

Bent compressor blades?

Check your intake piping for cracks and damage. My old 94 WRX had a split in the one of the pipes between the airbox and the turbo. It sucked through a piece of rubber and bent a few turbine blades. Dang.

See if I can find a link to a video of the sound......
