Default Drivers window won't go up!

Hi,

In a bit of a situation...coming home just now...put window all the way down and now it won't go up...at all......

Is this something that a place like stechnic can help with? Or do i need to go to an auto electrician? If so, can anyone recommend any SOR that will work weekends? I checked the workshops thread but no auto electricians in there....

Also found in a search that some guys had the same problem and ending up "cleaning" the contacts....is this done by taking out that area on the drivers door that houses all the window up/ down buttons?

By cleaning the contacts you are correct in saying it is the driver's window control panel/armrest on the drivers door, look for the window switches, pull them out, check all wires and connections and clean them well. it could also be the switch that measures how far up/down the window is, maybe someone who knows the ins/outs of the windows can shed some more light, best answer, check all connections/switches if need be, remove the whole door panel to make sure nothing else is blocking the window, jamming it. best of luck

Brett

It's happened to me a few times and the first time I went and saw Macey at westside in cannington and he showed me a little trick that worked.

Not sure if its the same thing that's causing yours but worth a try.

Now this sounds like something that would include holding your mouth a certain way but it does work for certain problems and Macey said it happens quite a lot.

Wind down all the other Windows then press each switch down in sequence in anti clock wise manner (drivers, front passenger, rear left and rear right) do this a few times then see if your window will go up.

If not then check the switch module.

Thanks for that pdf dude i have no idea what it means but worse case i can print it out and show an electrician....

Will try cleaning the contacts tomorrow after work....

Just want to confirm....i actually have to take out that whole window control centre bit right? Not just pull out the individual buttons...? Also can i just use something like wd40 to clean it? Or even a pinoclean wipe? lol

1) Use a contact cleaner that is if it is the switch problem. Give me a buzz on 04213 87888, I will be at EVO R on sat and will clean the contacts for you FOC.

2) When you press the switch, can you hear the relay clicking? There will be a clicking sound.

3) If it is not the relay at fault, then it could be a busted window motor itself.

4) Also you might want to check the window regulator.

Regards,
Mao

Last time this happened to me, I had to replace the control module for the windows.

Try a wreckers for a new unit to swap it out with.

The other windows work so its not a blown fuse, remove the door trim and unplug the connector, put 12V to the motor, if the window goes up and down then its probably the switch. If not, motor or reg is the problem.

Hmmm....yep there is a clicking noise.....

Mao if the contact cleaner doesn't work, do you know a temporary solution, say, to manually wind up the window? Can't even park anywhere with the window down like this...

Alright so went to my local nissan dealership and the guy managed to "tap" the motor to get the window up....he thinks my window motor is stuffed so it looks like a replacement is in order.....(thanks anyway mao)

Will book it in to a workshop and hopefully get it sorted....

Thanks guys.
