if you dont have the funds for a new gbox, forget the vf34+tune.

Instead to drive quicker use the following shift method.

Start of in 1st, 2nd, etc once in 5th shift it into R (stands for Rocket) and unleash some insane powa!

car came with ecutek? who tunes your ecutek?

vf34, sti ic and tbe + tune must be the most common bang for your buck combo. All i need is a vf34 + tune and hope i can have happy times also, hopefully not smashing the gearbox. If so then i would probly invest in a 6 speed

I bought the car from fsk on the forums here, he got the car about 12 months ago froma guy in Sydney.

The guy in Sydney got MRT to put a 3" TBE, 500hp fuel pump and an Ecutek type 1.5 tune. So yeah the car wasn't tuned in WA.

And if you go for a 6sp gear box wont that set you back about $4k or more?

^yeah fuk its only money, nah would be good i was just saying if the 5 speed gives way, wouldn't mind as i plan to keep it for a while, well thats what everyone says then end up selling the next day once installed

if my motor goes, its done nearly 200k then a 207 would most def be going in. however EJ motors have proven to last 250-300k + as some members here have got. Just tlc and granny driving i guess

will have to see how it goes, work + investment first then reap the rewards or so they say

btw what power gains are from your tune?

Hmmm, famous last words, you'll get used to the power, and then you'll want more.
A 5 speed should handle what your doing, if you have some mechanical sympathy.

yea well, I ride dirt bikes as a hobbie so if i had a passion to race I would start of by entering some MX events or doing some enduros. Maybe 5 or 10 years down the track i may considering racing but not anytime soon.

What he said.

Preservation of the 5spd is down to the way you drive, it will be ok as long as you don't try and shift like a japanese time attack driver on a flying lap or dump/drop the clutch repeatedly.

5spds do not like being rushed, particularly as they get older (maybe get some better transmission fluid if the car has done many kms, call Doug @ Stechnic and see what he recommends in regards to this).

you can be nice to the 5 speed and it'll last just that little bit longer with good oil and gentle smooth shifting, but for a 2nd hand car of that age you wouldn't know what the car had been thru with previous owners (not that i'm saying the previous owner thrashed it) but being old, its only a matter of time. My 2nd gear broke when i was driving normally 20 odd 30 km/h around a corner up hill. then a tooth came off. I'd be happier if it had broke while i was doing a run on the skid pan or something.

I mean if it holds then congrats, but you'd also want to be prepared if it does break. Last thing you want is to spend the money getting the vf34, and all the supporting mods then broke your gearbox after a few months and have no money to get it fix, having no car to use untill you can afford to have it replaced. Or even worst, if you have it replaced then it breaks again after a year, lol. just a thought.

Aston that gearbox and engine you have is in fantastic condition, if your not a dick to it you wont have any problems with a vf34 strapped in
