Rattle noise & vibration MY97

Hi all,

I have a rattling noise problem & light vibration when accelerating medium to hard around 2500 to 3000 rpm and goes away. Light acceleration doesn't rattle. However it only occurs in 1st & 2nd gear. Revving the engine while standstill is ok. It also happen under heavy load like on a hill seem to rattle a bit more. Some days, I don't get any rattle but most days, there is some rattling.

Would appreciate if anyone can advice of possible causes & solution.

KJ

Pinging??
What mods does it have?
What fuel do you use?

Could be the gearbox. Mine sounds like a busted big end bearing, and the vibration shakes the clutch pedal/gearstick. Apparently completely normal wear noise on 5spd's, mine only comes on in "overdrive" i think dougie called it, When im in gear and rolling at speed without accelerating.

could be:
worn engine and/or gearbox mounts
worn centre diff bearings
exhaust mounts
wheel bearings

tbe, pod filter & intercooler, 98

don't think it is pinging as it doesn't happen at all gears and not all the time.

kj K!
$ its your gearbox mounts
its about right age wise for them to start wearing now

jack it up and see if you can spot them
stock is rubber and will wear over time

If it is your mounts then I have a good set you can have, I just changed the gearbox on my car and the box still had the mounts attached and its a 97 so it will fit no problem

Thank for all the replies. I will check my gearbox mount next time I am under my car.
