quick cold air intake question
 

first up, im going to cover my grounds and say, I HAVE USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION.

im looking to take out the factory CAI and replace with something new n shiny. i'm just curious to know if i can just do a straight swap over or if some sort of tune is involved. if i do need to do a tune of some sort, will it be ok to run without a tune without causing any issues until i get other work done so i can get one overall tune?
i've seen a few kits online but don't want to buy until i know enough about it

i guess here's the only bit im confused on in terms of tuning (and im sure its there in black and white anyway). i'll be doing a straight swap, ie: plastic pipe to ali (or whatever) pipe > pod. nothing else will be going in. i guess if i want to use it to its full potential then i tune it. but if i leave it, will it cause issues?

Best policy to be safe is to have the AFR's checked after doing any mods (inlet or exhaust) that may have an impact on airflow.

Better to sling someone $50 now for a quick 5 minute drive whilst the AFR's are monitored with a wideband up it's bum, than to live in hope that 'she'll be right'.

Definitely get the air fuel ratios checked.
If yours is the bugeye in your avatar, you will need a complete kit, including MAF tube
Plenty of quality kits out there for WRX, Apexi would be my pick, comes with everything.

Really will be a limited gain anyway.
Be sure to shield the pod from the engine bay so you don't have heat soak issues.

Hey guys i asked this question in another thread but only got one guys input, just wanna see if anyone else has had any experiance or a different answer?? What would you get more power from either a high flow panel filter with a silicon maf pipe and turbo inlet or a short ram intake with a turbo inlet pipe?? Its on an 07 sti aswell

Pods, panels, CAI whatever you do, it comes down the filter material. If you are running the standard MAF, pipe sizes should be the same too. If you change pipe size, you will need a retune to suit.

For people still running MAF's, I seriously doubt you would see any power difference between a quality panel filter and a pod/cai whatever.

People who claim a power increase are usually comparing a dirty stock paper panel filter to a aftermarket high flow pod filter. Comparing quality filters for both types is like comparing a STi TMIC to a PW TMIC and saying which one gives the most power.

Whats a good recommended dry panel filter?

I found that comparing an STI group N panel filter in stock airbox to a K&N pod filter. It was slightly more responsive with the pod, turbo started a little earlier.
