Default Another weird noise thread (Bov related?)

Been trying to figure this out by myself and have come to a wall, perhaps someone can enlighten me on what the problem could be.

Recently installed a COBB 50/50 BOV to my car, was either today or yesterday noticed a funny noise, bit of a shrieking noise while the turbo is spooling up.

During installation, the install instructions states that there should be a gasket between the tmic and the bov, there was no gasket so I made one from some thin card. So to me, the noise could be from air leaking between the tmic and bov through the gasket I made up.

At first thought maybe the BOV was leaking, so I tightened the spring tension and made it full plumb back, noise still there. stupid me forgot to tighten the bov bolts as I wasnting thinking it was the gasket.

noise sounds kinda like this: simplest paper whistle - very loud - YouTube
Will tighten up the bov and make new gasket, then put stock bov back on.
having the noise only happen with turbo spooling up worries me it could be the turbo having issues. sigh

Easily the gasket, unless you undid any of the Y pipe clamps which may not be tight enough. Only a couple of bucks from Subaru so just get a new gasket.

Won't be the turbo kim. Nothing to worry there.

Get a Subaru gasket like apg has mentioned. Will do just fine.

Marc: Seal the gasket?

Sounds like its the gasket then, I tried to take the gasket off the stock bov but couldnt find a way to make it fit.

Gasket I made looks like the top pic, and the gasket from the stock bov is like the below pic, just a thin rubber strip

Its a rubber o-ring on the standard setup, put it back. That is all thats needed.

Indeed.

What type of thickness card/paper did you use?

I've seen people use card gaskets on their own vehicles but they're always coated with sealer etc.

THat would work on an earlier one with metal tanks on the intercooler, but with the plastic tanks, an o-ring as fitted standard would be all thats required, any quality BOV should only need the original o-ring.
I believe it's to do with the way the plastic react's to heat, different to metals.
