Smoke coming out of bonnet scoop?

Hay guys,

Me and my Dad have recently been seeing smoke coming out of our bonnet scoop and we are not that sure where its coming from. The cars temp doesnt rise at all and it doesnt seem to effect the cars performance at all but when you see smoke coming outa your bonnet...you shit yourself! Around our exhaust we have a wrapping ( i think it is to take the heat out of the exhaust or something? ) and my dad says it might be the wrapping smoldering because the smoke comes from that direction. if so, how do we stop it? is there some anti fire catching spray you can put on it? or do we have to get a new wrapping altogether?
please help!:sad10:
Thanks
AzzA:)

Oil smoke?

Oil leak onto up-pipe/down-pipe/headers?

rocker cover leak, oil could be collecting near the turbo or at the bottom just below the cover if it's on the right hand side, and starts burning oil when the engine gets hot

or it could be coolant leaking onto your up-pipe or headers from a dodgy hose

My mechanic just fixed the same problem, it was the rocket cover. It was the same with mine - had no change in temp or performance too. Hope all goes well mate.

My advice, get it checked out by a mechanic ASAP.

Having being in a car that caught fire after seeing smoke come out of the scoop, it can be quite serious if not attended to.

+1 ... where there's smoke there's always the potential of fire.

its not oil, as it doesnt smell like burning oil at all. we had a coolant leak on the front pipe of the rad this pipe was changed and we got some smoke out of the engine bay for some time because of the coolant thrown around the engine bay. some might of gotten onto the wrap around the exhaust? which could be the reason why it is smouldering, is there anything to stop this? has anyone had the wrapping on their exhaust smoulder before? and if so how did you stop it?
Thanks for the replys guys. :)

i never has an oil smell when my rockers were leaking, mainly because i was driving while it was smoking, was coming out of the bonnet scoop... have a quick look easier to rule stuff out by checking then wild guess's

this happened to me and it turns out it was grease from my cv droppping onto my exhaust. so check that one out
