Default Clutch pedal feels rough

Hey guys,

Got a bit of a strange issue with my clutch and wondering if anyone has heard of/experienced this before, going to take it in to get checked out but curious to know of similar experiences..

When I push and release the clutch pedal it feels rough, it only happens when on the move and if I push it in and out when the car is stationary and in neutral it feels normal. Its not a vibration, more like the pedal doesn't travel freely so I thought maybe it's to do with the pedal mechanism itself rather than the clutch plate but that's just a guess. Everything else about it's operation is normal, doesn't slip, no funny noises or smells and no difficulty changing gears

Any ideas?

Yeah, I've seen it a number of times on 2008 and newer WRX's. Subaru has changed the pedal from previous models to accomodate a soft bronze bush on the master cylinder pushrod hole and the over-centre spring hole. The pushrod clevis pin wears through the bush, pedal and eventually the pin itself. The entire pedal box has to be removed from the car and the parts renewed. It's about an hours work. I can't recall the cost of the parts required off the top of my head. (under $300 all up) We tried to get Subaru to cover the first one under warranty but they said it was due to a worn clutch. A different dealer subsequently repaired the car under warranty after some deliberation. Since then we have just done the repairs and the customers have paid the minimal charge themselves to save the hassle. I believe another contributing factor is the move from pull clutch to push clutch on 5 speed WRX's. They are noticably heavier to operate and possibly contributes to the early failure. There is a thread on here about the one of the cars concerned.

How many km were travelled before this became noticable or got to the point where action was needed?
Something to note for the future I guess =/

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. It's an sti though so not sure if it's also a push clutch?

It's just over a year old and has done a tad over 26,000 km, started happening Monday.. Surely this is a warranty issue?

Yeah, at one year and 26,000km it will be covered. The cars we looked at were all over 60,000km. STi has a pull clutch so possibly not the pedal issue I posted above.

Tony, you're so anal about your car you'll be the first to notice anything wrong.
