Default Replacing Wheel Bearing Grease- Can It Be Done ??

I was thinking of replacing the standard wheel bearing grease with something more suitable for track work. Something more heavy duty and heat resistant for example.

I have searched and cant find much info on this subject. What I have found doesnt leave me very confident that I can do this myself, that is if it can be done at all due to the possibility it has sealed bearings anyway??

I have an 05 WRX.

If anybody can shed some light on this I would be gratefull.

Thanks

Mate, don't go there. You might have your wheels falling off when doing a back yard job, lol. If you have a noisy bearing of some sort, let the specialists fix it. Wheel bearings are tightened at spesified torque settings, too loose and the wheel flop around, to tight and the bearing pinch and over heat.

The gc8's have issues with the wheel bearings over heating. I imagine the gd's are the same. The 05+ sti with the 113 pcd solved the issue.

If you are uber worried about I would suggest either putting on the bigger hubs or you can have it machined out to suit the bigger bearings.

Having said all that it is massive overkill for the occasional track day. From memory it is about $700 to change the front bearings.

Dont have dodgy bearings at the moment that I know of, I was just thinking of doing some preventative maintenance if it was possible. It obviously isnt.

The bigger hubs would be good if finances permitted and I guess you are right for the occasional track day. As I said before I just wanted to prolong the life of the bearings if it was possible to do so. If they already have high temp grease in them as Rossco said then problem solved.

Thanks for the feed back guys

How you gonna re-grease this?

93-06 wrx are all the same.

05 WRX doesn't have sealed bearings, only STI.
Basically disassembling wheel bearings that have already been installed is not a good idea.
They come apart when they are removed from the car, and may be damaged, essentially they are a single use item.
You need specialist tools to remove and fit wheel bearings properly.
The only way to do it is to buy new one's, and seals, and repack them then fit them.
On most non-sealed Subaru bearings, its a good idea to repack them with proper HTB grease anyway, the grease they are shipped with is mainly to stop corrosion.

EDIT: dont know where you got that pic from, but thats not genuine

No, it's not genuine but it's what NTN bearings list for a front bearing for all wrx 93-06.

It too will separate when pressed out....
