Tmic Gc8

Hi All,

When I was trying to swap my tmic for a aftermarket one, I had noticed that my old tmic had a sensor. Now, I checked my aftermarket tmic and it had nowhere to put the sensor, so the million dollar question(s) -What does this sensor do? And where would it go if I install my new tmic?

Also, I had noticed a little oil in the stock tmic, is that blow by? If so, what can I do to stop it from happening?

Semi-educated guess - That's an autronic air temp sensor.

Either you have an autronic (stick it just before the throttle body), or you don't need it - but your car had an autronic at one stage.

Could it be a i/c spray sensor?

yeah, wrx's are known for blow-by once you start making more than stock power.
an "oil catch can" properly set up will fix it.

Would there be an alternative place where I can relocate the sensor?

Just drill and tap into the new IC and fit it back in a similar position. Looks like an Autronics or Motec ECU was, or is in use.
As for the oil blow by live with it or get an Oil Catch Can fitted. Try a $65 jobby from X Speed and a few hours labour.

If you do get a catch can try venting it back to the pre turbo intake hose. Use some foam or material in the can to separate the oil. This ensures its still compliant and stops the smelly oil venting back into the cabin like some people have complained of.

Oh yeah, if you want to stop the oil blow by from occurring you will probably have to reduce the boost level, rebuild the engine / turbo or all of the aforementioned. Best to just accept some oil blow by as "normal" and use a can. :)

10 points to geoff, I just checked my ecu - it's an autronic. Not sure on the model...
