2000 Forester turbo conversion?
Hey guys,
I have just bought a 2000 Forester Limited Edition for $4,000 but it has really high Km's. Although the engine is fine the car has traveled 302000 km's so I have bought it with the intention to convert it to turbo when the engine dies. Can anybody tell me how difficult it is to do the job? I'm very familiar with this engine bay as I did a STI conversion to my 2000 WRX a couple of years ago. Any advice would be awesome, feels good to be back in the game! Regards Brendan |
So you have done this before but need to know how to do it?
Last time I believe was a WRX to STI transplant of the same generation so was a bit more straight forward.
Bogga's correct. I did the WRX to STI conversion with some good mods and power FC. Ended in a big crash! Sold the wreck for 2k after spending 10k on the conversion alone... Ouch!

Must remember to do the brakes this time hahha. Stock breaks just don't cut it
If it's manual I'll give you $100 for the old hi/lo box, everything is pretty much the same as an Impreza underneath as that's what they are based on.
^^ But could you leave the hi/lo box in and just change out the motor to a 205? Or you have to change drive line as well?
I've seen a gx with turbo lib motor in it with hi/lo box still .. Turbo boxes break easy enough I prob wouldn't leave the Foz box in it
If you want it to be easy and straight forward, best bet is to pick up a written off GT Foz of around the same year and it should be a matter of plug and play.
Otherwise, full loom swap, cross member, best to swap to a turbo box and matching diff etc etc. The WRX - STI swap is easy by comparison. |
^^ exactly what corrie said, buy a damaged gt & swap the lot including all the loom, there's one on gumtree for cheap for its had quite a frontal hit :o
