Default Service Interval on MY11 STI

I'm just about to click over 6000kms in the STI and remember the dealer saying something about it needing a service every 6k. However, the owners manual states 12.5k/6 months.

I'm guessing the manual is correct, but I don't want to do the wrong thing, so thought I'd post it up here for the collective knowledge of P-WRX to sort out

Think I might look into changing the oil & filter myself anyway. Anyone done theirs on an MY11? Any tips?

every 12,500km or 6 months

there used to be a 5000km/3 month first service but i think that only applies to H6 engines

doing an oil change yourself is very easy just remove the underbody tray and you will be able to see everything.

Thanks MattuZ, I'll go get the bits and give it a go. Luckily, my old man has a hoist, so it'll be a good excuse to get it up on there and have a good poke around underneath

Follow the manual's service intervals.

There has been stories of people changing the oil too early in their new Subaru's, using fully synthetic oil, and glazing the bores.

It may be heresay, but would you risk it? Just follow the service intervals and it won't hurt anything.

12500km/6months is the correct interval, using synthetic is fine after 5000k's

Follow the manual, have dealer/mechanic stamp it as such. Will make sure you have no issues with the new car warranty should anything go wrong.

Oil changed...check! The hoist made life MUCH easier, but once the under tray is off, it's all easily accessible as per MattuZ's comment.

ok. I don't drive much. I'm at 31,146kms on my 2010 WRX.

I'm almost at 24 months. Doi i really need to spend $700 on a 50k/24month service if I drive as little as i do?

All other services have been done early by date rather than kms. Any issues with warranty if i wait?
