Time to find a new Mechanic - advice appreciated.
Hey Everyone,
I have a WRX 97" Club Spec & a 07 Impreza. I live in Palmyra (towards Fremantle way) & I would like advice on where I should take my cars. I'm not looking for any mod work. Just want to maintain the two cars at the moment, and get my 97" WRX a bit of TLC all round and a bit of a performance tune up etc.. I've come across Cypher Industries & XSPEED in the forums listed in O'Connor. Though, am a bit nervous moving to someone else. Any advice would be appreciated - really want someone I can trust, and won't rip me blind. Any advice would be appreciated. |
Look up the page, Perth work shops

Fixed :D |
That was the thread I found before. :)
The two in O'Connor are the closest to me. As they are on the list, I would assume they're popular with the forum users. Would be keen to hear from people who have used them, and which workshop would be better suited to what I need? Cypher Industries / XSPEED |
Popular one here would be STechnic.
Having personally used them, I can't really fault them. Just a pity that they are a bit far from your location, only have to drive 20ish kilometers myself to visit them :p |
+1 for STechnic in Maddington. I drive down from Innaloo and it is thoroughly worth it. Plus the long drive home gives me chance to check everything is alright and test out the new mods. Well worth it IMO.

+1 STechinc
great service and great advice from these guys |

Have made the trip from Palmyra to STechnic plenty of times. Probably so many times that they now take it there for me ;) A+++ recommendation. |
stechnic,
they did a gearbox teardown/troubleshoot to find a problem and then swapped my transfer case gears in a day basically. Plus they are excellent guys, really friendly and welcome to chat about possibilities of performance etc for the cars. also there was a small prob with some parts something they had installed, they offered to fix it for free when i took it back. couldnt recommend them any more, best mechanics ive met |
I live in Butler (40km north of the city) and I still drive to Maddington to go to STechnic. I do this for a reason.
|
STechnic.

Wow! Okay, thats some incredible feedback for STechnic. If you all believe its worth the drive then count me in! Thankyou for the advice.
STechnic it is. :) |
STechnic for me (Canning Vale) and my girlfriend (Palmyra).
Also her sister could soon be in a WRX and will also go to STechnic if thats the case, because I say so! |
If you want some xspeed feedback - they are awesome also. Do more than just Subaru though.
|
Cypher and Xspeed are more import orientated to say but Stechnic are more Subaru specialist workshop.
All 3 are awesome workshop plenty of mates who are at Cypher now and few use Xspeed and I use Stechnic with my subie. |
STechnic do all the mechanical work to my car and XSpeed tune it.
|
I used to use STechnic but prefer Evo R these days. Both workshops are great but Evo R suits me better.

I have used EVO R in the past to tune my car and do upgrades to my car. Mao is great :) |
+ 1 for Mao at Evolution R
|
What are they all like when it comes to pricing? STechnic, Xspeed, Cypher & Evo R
I used to goto RMS back in the day when they were still open and they charged me an arm and a leg to get things done. |
Specialist service for specialist cars is going to cost.
Ring them for a quote for a service and take it from there |

STechnic basically took over RMS' Perth client list, as well as their mechanics moving to STechnic. As TJ said, all the workshops that have been mentioned are specialist workshops, you are paying for their specialised knowledge of performance cars & Subarus in particular. You could always go to UltraTune, Auto Masters or your local mechanic, they MAY be cheaper initially but will cost you money in the long run. |
I have used both Stechnic and Evo R for my subie.
+1 for both. As for pricing, i think Mao @ Evo R is priced very very well. Just look at the coilover prices and support for evidence. |
