Default ej207 valve springs and retainers

Has anyone ever tried running 264 cams with 9.3mm lift on stock valve springs and retainers?? Evos seem to get away on stock valve terrain just wondering if ej207s can support 264 cams since they seem to handle 1.7 plus bar on pump fuel and big turbos easily enough

Easy! My car is running 272 cams with 10.4mm lift on standard springs. I have an 01 WRX.
I think GC's might have issue's though

Biggest issue with GC heads and big cams is the bucket runners have a protruding edge that can foul on the cam lobe.

Generally, these need to be relieved by machining them.

This may only be for 98 and earlier though, not sure about the 99/00 heads.

The cams im thinking of running are a lot smaller then yours is your wrx non sti with 7000rpm redline? The stock lift on jdm version 5 and 6 is 9.1mm so i was hoping id get away with 9.3mm lift with 264 duration.

The 99/00 heads are shim under bucket and the older ones are shim over so i guess thats the biggest difference, i dont know if they do have protruding edge or not on the bucket runners??

I am now running 99 heads & 264 cams, however I changed the springs & retainers out based on the low cost.

99 heads are shim under bucket...No issues with anything under 11mm lift....I would however go to better aftermarket springs.

springs and retainers are cheap.

couple of hundred...

dont bother changing your cams if your not going to do springs and retainers.

Yup they are cheap but installing them gets expensive, dont you have to take the motor out and then the heads off to do the springs?? Thats why i was thinking if i can get away on stock valve springs then i wont bother changing them. My aim is to do a low 11sec pass or a high ten on as many stock parts as posible, at the moment my best time is 11.6 which i ran 2 weeks ago.
