Default EJ20K Timing belt kit question (same as EJ20G?)

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a GC8 MY97/98 JDM WRX The engine is EJ20K.

I've realised my crank seal is leaking and i think this might be a good opportunity to replace the timing belt...

Can anyone confirm if the following kit for an 02 WRX EJ20G will suit the EJ20K?
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

I believe the timing belt is the same across the EJ20 range although, I am not sure about the water pump, tensioner or idler..

Any insight would be appreciated.

Regards,

Thanks all!

D

1997/98 is right on the changover from the telescopic tensioner to the pivoting tensioner (pictured) the belt is the same on all quad cam EJ20's but the tensioner quite possibly won't fit.

Also, EJ20G is a really old engine, even older than yours. I think they mean EJ205 or EJ207??

Your JDM engine may not have an oil cooler fitted, if so one of the waterpump outlets will need to be blanked or the correct non oil cooler waterpump be fitted.

Interesting, so it could be either? Without taking off the crank casing off i'll never know?

What about the timing pulleys, would they be the same since the belt is the same?

Possibly EJ205 I suppose. I'll double check the water pump over the weekend I suppose

Your not takin the crank case off, take the timing cover off, toothed pully and the smooth pully should be the same, you may also have the thin idler pully to the right of the tensioner
