Built Engine Lifespan

Hi all,

As the title suggest, I am interested to hear people's opinions and experiences on how long their built engine has lasted.

I have a a GC8 version 6 STI, 2.5 short block conversion with forged internals. Engine has done just over 60 000km since the build and is still going strong. Still has the VF 28 turbo, stock intercooler and injectors. Very safe tune, 186KW ATW.

I am looking at doing further mods to the car and turning up the wick, wondering if I am being to ambitious with a motor that has done that many
k's.

cheers,

boydey

does you fully forged motor have oil phasing of the crank done ?

GX-REX 23-06-2012 07:11 PM

How was it built and by who?
Was it actually a "built" short block or a factory EJ257?

Hi seagull,
not that I am aware of, the previous owner had the engine built and i cant find anything to suggest it was. What is the benefit of oil phasing the crank?

Hi GX-REX,

it is a built short block so it still retains the stock heads from the 207. RTE did the build in 2005.

Sounds like you have just got forged pistons in it:
ie: it will still have issues when you force more than 18 or so psi into the bores. Keep it under this and it should run as well as it does now for a fair while yet. Service history is where it is really important in this case.

Hi phizzle,

Has excellent service history, I am mates with the previous owner. The 2.5 short block was first installed with factory internals. Did not last long, broken ring land:( So the current setup is actually the second build.

Parts from the build list:
CP forged pistons
Eagle forged connecting rods
ARP Head Studs
Looks like the original crank was reused. This was a US STI 2.5 short block so not sure what the specs are.

some 2.5 short blocks have nitrated cranks
