What does a Carbon Fiber OEM STI wing spoiler do?

Hey guys, i just bought myself a new spoiler for the car, ill be showin pictures when i have installed it. But i was wondering, what does it actually do besides looking good? E.g provide down force or speeeeed :]? haha

Any comments will be muchly appreciated.

well spoilers are designed to create downforce to improve traction at the rear of the car at high speed.

You won't probably ever get to the speeds needed in order to require this extra downforce, thus, its a cosmetic thing.

If you mean the one that bolts to the C-pillar, on the roof, it keeps the airflow attached to the roof of the car so it doesn't interfere with the flow over the boot spoiler.
But, as Kym said, normal road speeds would barely create enough flow to do anything.

So if you had one of these spoilers and Riggs on your car it would be like this?

As kim said, they are designed to provide downforce, just like in formula 1. :-)

I believe they can provide some meaningful grip in the rear, especially if the angle is adjustable, some are...The CF sti ones are, but yeah you need to be going quite fast..round corners to benefit...which most people dont do...Maybe adds in high speed stability, even in a straight line....under heavy braking from say 160+?

Under about 160kmh...fuk all.

160km/h - that "100mph tape" its stuck on with will be holding on for dear life wouldn't it?
