Default Turbo Upgrade?

Hey everyone,

so today i got my MY00 WRX tuned at Evo R, it only ended up pushing 220HP at 1 BAR, i was told the turbo may be faulty as he tried to increase the boost but it wouldnt push more then 1 BAR, so im looking for more power.
any recommendations? the car is not used on the track, only as a daily.

current mods;
-power fc
-VF30
-front mount
-3" HKS tbe
-apexi avcr
-sti injectors

i've been looking on the net and the Tomei M7760 seems to really catch my eye, apparently its, i quote " the largest bolt-on turbo possible that the engineers can fit into the limited space of the EJ engine".

I would say Fuel Pump and Turbo. But the question is, why do you want to sacrifice stability/reliability/fuel consumption for power when you dont plan to use it?

In my case I was tracking and rallysprinting it - but the ongoing cost of maintaining the car was becoming too much for me to handle right now.

For your reference, my MY99 was as follows.

- 3 Inch TBE
- 2005 STi Top Mount
- Walbro Fuel Pump
- ViPEC ECU
- Replaced the boost solenoid
- VF28 Turbo

Standard Intake and Standard Injectors. Made ~240HP @ 1.3 Bar. My car did have an issue on the TD04 Turbo with the boost solenoid not being able to hold the wastegate above 1 Bar in the beginning, so perhaps you might have a similar issue?

If you have a WRX because you want to chase big numbers and straight-line times - then you have purchased the wrong car im afraid. You will need a bunch of other stuff if you want to up them - one of which is an EJ207 Semi-Forged motor as opposed to the stock EJ205. That would have been my next buy if I kept my GC. Worn out EJ205's will only take so much abuse.

if it's the biggest turbo possible it will also be laggy as fuck

and what's the point of getting a massive turbo if it will be limited by (in your case) stock wrx heads+cams and a shitload of other stuff and 10 billion supporting mods which aren't currently on your car before you can even think about putting it on?

also what's the point if it won't come on boost till 6k then you have to change gear 1 millisecond later?

also what's the point if it's a daily?

i don't understand, the vf30 is more than enough to net you over 260 hp at least all things allowing with the right tune, and that is certainly all you need as a daily in a gc8.

if you want more after that then cross that bridge when you come to it

Sell your car and buy this!

Will be cheaper in the long run! Plus its an awesome car and has been extremely well maintained.

Should have saved the extra couple of dollars and bought a Veyron instead.

From what I have heard, the Tomei's are shit. More can be had with a VF34.

I'd be more looking into why the car can only hit 1 bar and fixing that. Swapping turbos out for a 20ish hp gain is a big $ effort for such little gain.
monkeee and MY00GC8 like this.

the VF34 and the VF30 are very similar in output, the only difference is the spooling times, as the VF30 has a different bearing design. I think i will look more into why its not boosting over 1 BAR, does any one know why that might be?

How many kms does your ej205 have? Are you ready to spend the money to change your block if it goes bang? I think 220 is just the right number on an ej205. If you want more power be read (money wise) to replace the block.
