Question Swap stock turbo TD04L to VF39

Hi guys. I intend to swap my stock turbo to my04 sti turbo VF39. I need to know something before I buy the turbo, such as do I need a bigger fuel pump? Eill it work on Stock ecu re-flash instead of installing an aftermarket one? Any recommendation?

Regards,
Xspeedsimon

Hi Xspeedsimon

If your going to upgrade your turbo you usually need bigger injectors, better fuel pump and a ECU tune. You would also want to upgrade your intercooler and be running a 3 inch turbo back exhaust system.

What mods do you have at the moment?

Hahaha, Yeah you might need to upgrade a few other parts before the new turbo. Better intercooler and ECU tune will get you more power out of the stock TD04. I made 215hp at the hubs with my TD04. But if your set on the bigger turbo it would be worth getting bigger injectors and fuel pump before the tune.

in most cases you will not need larger injectors if running a standard sti turbo on reasonable boost

I made 210 hp and 370nm on the TD04(95 octan) only had a 3"TBE, I asked my tuner about a turbo upgrade to maybe a vf48, he advised that my supporting mods be fuel pump and intercooler. Im going to leave the stock intake as iv read a wrx gets nothing out of after market intakes until your pushing 500hp

Hey Sonic. What WRX have you got? Are you running the 2.5L? I only got 290nm with my 2.0L and 215HP.
