Help, belt snapped...

I was driving home just now and felt noticed the battery light was on. Thought this was abit odd and figured it must be due to me installing a DIY electrical relay for the Hella supertones I installed just today.

Another light also came on the (!) light which if I'm not mistaken also comes on then the handbrake it up.

I suddenly lost control of the steering whilst driving. I pulled to the side of the road to see what was wrong only to find to my disgust that the main thick belt on the front of the engine was all frayed and caught up in the plastic covering above the engine, Only a small strip was left on.

Needless to say I am quite annoyed, I have her home now nice and safe.

Can anyone tell me what this belt is? I'm assuming it's the steering belt. If anyone knows how to fix it or how much is will cost to replace and put on can you give me some hints please?

Thanks

power steering/alternator belt
hence why the battery light also came on
belt looking at roughly $30-$40 takes about 5-10 minutes to replace

Thank god. That's good news! Now I just gotta try and untangle all of the wire and rubber from within my engine...

If your belt snapped I would say it has been worn for a very long time, could be a good time for a service mate!

Yeah thanks guys, went away for a few days, just got back and pulled the remainder out from the engine. Pricing up some replacements tomorrow to pop in. Think I'll do both of them that are there. It is due for a service but surely they would have spotted it last service? Seems you can't trust anyone to do a decent job now days.
