Car starts fine every morning with no issues, only had the shut off issue once last week. Maybe it is the alternator starting to stuff up. Maybe not giving enough charge, but enough for the car to drive

I know this is a simple one, but is your battery and terminals tight and secure?

Hopefully thats the issue, lol. I tightened the terminals yesterday and checked they were clean. Ill drive it today and see how it goes, also will do the multi-reader testing.

So did some testing today. When car is off battery is reading 12.6, when car is running battery is reading 14.0
So that sounds right I think
Should I do any other testing with the Multi-Reader?
I drove the car around this morning and it was fine, battery light is still on though.

A diode in the alternator could be faulty and throwing the light on?

As above, or because you now have LEDs there may not be enough load through that "charging light circuit". Bit like installing LED blinkers, blink very fast if they don't have an additional resistor added to increase the load on the flasher unit.

Either way, I would be off to an auto sparkie.

(BTW voltages sound fine, could have been a loose terminal when you disconnected the battery to do the lighting mod. )

Update - Just went down to the shops and car was running fine. When i got back in it to leave the car started up and then shut off after 2 seconds. Tried to start it again and the engine just kept turning over but wouldn't fire up. Waited 60 seconds, car started fine and I drove home. Does that say anything about the issue? :S

Yeah thinking of removing all the LED lights, maybe i got some dodgy ones, or ones that aren't meant for the cluster.

Another thing i just remembered. Around 6 weeks ago, i was trying to start the car and it would shut off after 1 second of starting up. I ended up starting the car and holding the revs at 3000. The first time i did it for 5 seconds and then car still shut off when i let go of the pedal. The second time i did it for around 12 seconds and the car stayed on and has been fine until the other day. Could that be part of it?
