Yeah, that sounds like a fairly heavy component, not a heatshield or wategate I don't think. Get expert help before driving any further just in case.
Is the car in Coogee? If so, see if you can get it in to Platinum Automotives in Jandakot.

Yea the car is still in Coogee, but i do have a full RAC membership which does allow for a flatbed which is good!

Are Platinum Automotive able to supply Jap spec aftermarket parts if something is stuffed?

I havent had a chance to listen for it under the car, it was tuned by Warick at Evolution R after the TBE and BOV was put on.

I'm assuming a stuffed big end will put a rather big dent in the bank account?

yeah you'll require a new bottom end mate, sometimes cheaper to buy a factory bottom end than rebuild your existing one

here is a similar sounding failed sti:

What graphs where you given when you got the tune done? Maybe the tune was abit to aggresive and has resulted in a failure?

usually caused by oil starvation Tony, could be another case of a cracked oil pickup causing lack of oil pumped up through the galleries, is a pretty common problem, sadly not something you would check until you hear the death rattle

did you ever have the oil light come on at low rpm?

I don't have the graph on me, I asked for it to not be too aggressive as I didn't want anything to blow up
I'll try track it down to see what info that has on it
