Ticking noise under decel/light load

Hey,

I've been struggling with an issue lately where i hear this repetitive ticking noise when decelerating or under light load (cruising at around 1-2.5k revs).

It kind of sounded like a light piece of metal tapping something, so i have gone through and checked and tightened the heatshield.

The car does have a 3" downpipe on it, but it isn't that knocking the chassis, that is a different noise :p

Hopefully someone has had this before, otherwise it might drive me insane!

Got a Bosch fuel pump? I had one that ticked in similar circumstances, Just gotta put up with it.

If you drive that piggy in your avatar this is what you are experiencing. And the only way to get rid of it through all my research is to put a wastegate with a harder spring in.

Hmmm, so the car may be running to much boost for the stock wastegate?

It has a flash tune through it, with boost peaking at around 16psi (don't quote me on that)

They do it stock, i could just hear it when the car was completely stock with the stock DP. Went 3" dp and now its louder. You just have to learn to live with it if its the same problem. Its even worse on the forrestors of the same age.

I'm trying to get a mate to come around to hold the rev's at aaround 1500rpm so i can listen to the actuator so i can see if the licking is coming from there, it kind of sounds like a playing card in a bike wheel, but metal.

If it is the actuator what is a decent replacement? would it be worth doing the boost solenoid at the same time?

Up pipe heat shield.

I tightened my actuator arm a turn tighter and it has all but fixed the issue for me. I know Tony had boost spike issues doing this but my car was fine.

It would be interesting to see if replacing the stock BCS fixes the issues. If you replace it with a 3 port you will need a retune.

Is there any way to see the up-pipe from the top of the engine?

I am seriously contemplating replaced the wastegate actuator and BCS, but it is alot of cash to sink if it doesn't resolve the issue.

I wonder if the clicking noise is causing any damage?
