TROLLEY 04-05-2013 10:51 AM

Only during those specific times? Thats very... "unique"!

I had a problem with my alarm going off intermittently once before, turned out that the bonnet switch is a bit iffy. Maybe check that the switch is properly engage.

Jezza 04-05-2013 11:06 AM

The guys are at STechnic until midday today

Bandit 04-05-2013 11:34 AM

Yep I'm thinking maybe bonnet switch or pressure/impact sensor...

abs 04-05-2013 11:50 AM

thanks guys..just popped by stechnic just now they turned off my alarm said to leave it for a few days...really puzzling

yeh they said might be cats jumping on it lol..but my cat stays indoors at nights so idk..

yeh they thought that too and just disconnected it

Living in Gosnells
Weird shite happens all the time

Marti 04-05-2013 01:13 PM

It will either be a bonnet or door switch, iv seen the boomer switches rub on after market intakes as earth out out causing the alarm to go off. You can check which sensor is at fault by flipping the little switches on the alarm modual. Wouldn't recommend doing that if you don't know what your doing

sooooo, which part of Gosnells do you live in?

Tiigga 04-05-2013 08:01 PM

Surely abs would still lock the car with the key..... even if the brant is disarmed
Surely abs would still lock the car with the key..... even if the brant is disarmed
The Brant is still armed, the siren is off only.
The bonnet switch was rusty, no idea why servicing the car would have any effect other than opening and closing the bonnet.

Marti 04-05-2013 08:39 PM

The original Subaru security system will still allow the car to be locked and unlocked with the key, having a rusty or fucked bonnet sensor has nothing to do with a work shop opening and closing a bonnet

abs 04-05-2013 09:59 PM

yes it still locks and unlocks fine, just no siren for now which i still have the alarm key to turn back on when i want like parking my car in northbridge on a saturday night for example

yeh i dont think the service had anything to do with it, just a coincidence is all

Champ 04-05-2013 10:59 PM

Doug is right, servicing won't affect the alarm. Iffy alarm switch can be the cause of the false alarms after opening/closing the bonnet.

Happened to me after I did one of my monthly checks under the bonnet - never thought to link the false alarm to the bonnet switch until someone told me to check it.

If this doesn't give it away ^^^...

When the switch is in that condition, it is quite common for the cold/moist mornings to play a part in car alarms falsing. Doesn't matter if it's Brant, Autowatch, Cyclops etc.. First thing I'd replace the bonnet switch, and check that the new one is properly adjusted. The bonnet needs to put enough pressure on it to move, but not for it to bend as well. I don't remember flipping switches on the circuit board having anything to do with identifying/diagnosing faulty door switches and specifically which one, as the alarm module reads it from a common wire (like that one that goes to your interior light.) It's worth trying the bonnet switch thing for a few days, then go from there. If it still false alarms, next try disconnecting the pressure/impact sensor - from memory we use to position the sensor module in near the drivers side kick panel. It has been years now since I was fitting these, but I'll keep an eye out for any literature I may still have lying around the house somewhere (in case my memory is failing me...).

By gracefully climbing on my wheel, crawling across my window and ever so gently placing my ass on the roof....... no jumping was involved :laughing9

:p L.O.L.

The whole Brant alarm system is Subaru cancer. The quality of the product, the connectors used, the install, the fact that they use red wire for earth and run it a metre across the car for no reason, the use of 2mm wire to interrupt a 6mm power feed, the rusty switches are all shit. The whole thing needs to be ripped out with great vengeance and furious anger and thrown in the rubbish bin where it belongs.

Not specific to only the car we are talking about here, but each and every one of them sooner or later will give frustrating faults. If I had to list the top ten things that makes late model Subaru cars unreliable the first nine would be alarm/immobilizer systems.

What.The.Actual.Fuck??

That sounds really weird. Memory aint the greatest but I'd be really surprised if that's how they left Canning Vale when we were there. Even still, a copper wire wrapped in red insulation (apart from being very wrong here in WA) will carry current as well as any other coloured wire of the same rating. As for rusty bonnet switches, you can hardly blame Brant OR Subaru for that - eventually they're going to rust regardless of the name. Overall, I can't say I disagree about the systems being unreliable, as it is no secret. There was a time when Brant had one of the better names in the car alarm industry but unfortunately, with time and like everything else, they began to fail...

dtrally 06-05-2013 09:54 PM

Yeah, true. I'll take a picture of the mess next time I have the misfortune of removing one. (won't be long)

The earth wire I'm talking about is the one cable tied to the steering column support bar right across behind the glove box and attaches to the M6 nut near the top left of the glove box.
