WRX to STI conversion worth it?

I know that there are many of you with good knowledge on this...

Looking for a bit of advice. Am looking for more power from my wrx and understand that the parts in the wrx are the limiting factors to get more power.

Is going for a sti conversion a good and economical option rather than getting a sti and doing that up...

Two letters.

N. and O.

Just sell your car and buy an STi.

2013 - the year of the conversion.

mavx4 15-06-2013 08:44 PM

pretty sure it costs more to upgrade than getting a STi

RUSSGT 15-06-2013 09:02 PM

Just put a sti turbo on. Retune. Done

Hasn't stopped others here from trying before.
All depends what you want out of it at the end of the day.

Economically, better off starting with an STI.

The other thing to consider. It will always be seen as a WRX when it comes time to sell.

If you want a challenge or need a project, & like throwing do$h at cars, then yes. But the differences between a garden variety WRX and an STi is subtlety hidden mostly in the internals. Non-forged vs forged, 6 speed, uprated IC etc.

As above, flog off the WRX and get an STi, even if an earlier model and you will have a good base to work from if needed. Problem is finding one that hasn't had the crap caned out of it; specially older/classic models.

^^^^ Buy an Sti. You'll never get the money back that you have spend on mods.

Lighter and stronger lower control arms, better seats, better brakes, the list is huge. So is the rear wing :D

The resale value of WRX/STi's is falling through the floor at the moment so now is a great time to pick up a decent STi for a good price.

The problem is you could easily sink $15k into a full conversion when you can probably pick up a Bug STi for around $16-18k in fair decent condition. Depends how attached you are to your current car I guess, but as a warning see Cat's build thread about how a strong attachment to a particular car can lead to massive problems (Admittedly hers was GC8 RX to STI).
