Broken up pipe

Right so I though my Wrx was making a odd noise and after an inspection from a mechanic in work it's a broken up pipe at the heat shield causing a rattle.

With me being new to subi and that. Is the up pipe really just a down pipe but because of the boxer I goes up to the turbo ?

So also anybody recommend a new pipe or a place to get it sorted ?

up pipe is what connects the turbo to the exhaust manifol(turbo sit ontop of it), if you have an catted up pipe then its a perfect time to replace it

Are you sure it's not just the heat shield that's come adrift which isn't uncommon....if so it just needs re-attaching (eg welding)...and are you sure it isn't the downpipe shield?

I'm not 100% sure on anything. That's all I've had is the report on the invoice. I don't have anything to get under the car and have a look myself and see

I would suggest that you take it to a specialist Subaru workshop.......
eg S-Technic Garage, Maximum Motorsport, Allstar Garage

Since u live in Bentley, so maybe call EvoR? Get a Tomei EL header if the up pipe is really gone.

+1 on taking it to a subaru specialist.. especially +1 on S-Technic.

There are two likely faults with the up-pipe. Often as said earlier the heat shield breaks off and falls down the pipe making an annoying but not unroadworthy metallic rattle sound.
The other less common fault is a split in the flexible join caused usually by the exhaust not being mounted securely and fatiguing the join. This make a foof-foof-foof noise like an old Volkswagen Beetle. Usually worst when cold and often will be less noticeable as the car warms up.

My experience with replacement non genuine up-pipes and headers has not been great in terms of easy fitment. You may be able to source a genuine Subaru secondhand pipe and change it relatively easily, of try your luck with replacement stainless steel headers. If you decide to go with the headers my advice is get the seller to organise fitting for you.
