wrx rattling and exhaust

Hey guys,

Just wandering I have a mate that bought a wrx 2002 bugeye model and its his first wrx. I didn't want him to get a bad impression of Subaru as I have one and suggested him to buy one:D

After owing it for 2months or so he is having some mechanical issues such as coolant hose etc. The hose have been replaced by me now and all in good condition. The only issue he has atm is loss of power and while accelerating the car makes a rattling sound in the engine bay quietly.

Could this be the cause of Bov or turbo etc. Current mods I kno he has is Pod filter and boost controller. The car isn't leaking any fluids or blowing smoke from oil cap.

Any help would be much appreciated

While the second issue is with my Subaru bugeye 2001 I noticed the car has loss a bit of power since the tune last month. Where I had no mods done after that at all. The car is still running rich so will be getting it retune for free by the tuner. So the car usually smells strongly of a fuel odour from exhaust while idling, and start ups it blows white smoke at times. What could be the cause as the car was fine after the tune until the nxt day.

Also when down shifting and accelerating the car puff smoke as if the fuel wasn't going though. Since it stays constant rpm and speed...then kicks in with bunny hops/ black puff smoke from exhaust. The oil was abit over the F line on dip stick...now its just under F line??

The mods on the car bov, pod filter, vf34, TBE and bosh fuel pump and link44s.

2002 bugeye: Loss of power, rattling sound...sound likke it could be an internal issue (eg big end bearings)...best he takes it to a reputable workshop to get it checked.

2001 bugeye: Loss of power, various coloured smoke etc.... get rid of BOV & replace with OE one, get Link tuned properly (good luck with that...try Leigh Hynes, Busselton Subie Service)...oil may have been overfilled + there may be some residual blowback in the intercooler (plenty of threads about this on here)....

your mates car could also have a collapsed cat in the up-pipe before the turbo, agree with nauli, have a reputable subaru specialist check it out (s-technic, all star garage, maximum motorsport)

try sean at all star garage to tune your link

cheers for the reply guys:) I am going to take my friend to Stechnic in Maddington and let Dougie check it out. Regards with my 2001 wrx I notice the coolant was low and over flow bottle. So topped it of today and fingers cross it doesn't go down again, but any reasons to why coolant has gone down as I see no leaks.

No oil leak or coolant in engine bay. Beside some from bov? normal or not as I read oil tends to splatter out only a tad and hasn't happened again since.

Last of all the coolant doesn't have a milky look or smelly odour. No signs of oil getting into coolant? though it was a tad bubbley the coolant when I started the engine. normal or not as taken well care of the car. New vf34 and serviced regularly so why suddenly loose coolant

p.s dip stick oil shows more oil over the F line? still, should empty it out? as exhaust only sometimes puff white smoke on start up but mostly black
