5 Speed Short Shifter

Using the original kit which is getting a little old, bushes getting old, gearbox is feeling a tiny bit sloppy.

Seems more availability for 6 speeds.

What is the best aftermarket for 5 speed? 01 WRX.

From what I can tell - GFB is the way to go, for around $250? Anyone got one of these in, feel alright? Does it come with new bushes?

Don't really want want of the $99 special half arsed kits.

I have a GFB short shifter and love it. Have it set on the shortest throw and still easy to shift gears and has factory feel. It doesn't come with bushes but you can always upgrade, I recently did kartboy bushes, group n trans mount and whiteline positive shift kit which drastically changed the feel of the car.

Cobb? $150 from Prospeed?

Thanks guys.

I bought the GFB kit on special, from MRT, would you believe for $200.

Also bought me a knew knob. (Authentic STi)

5 Speed Bushes - $60 + $20 postage for some rubber bits from Ultrex? Seems harsh.

Did you look into Kartboy gear?

They've had deals on shifter and bushes packages before. Quality stuff, had a 5sp one before

Had a quick look, don't look as good/come with as much stuff? Cheaper obviously, but also come with bushes. #confusing.

GFB are Aussie, Kartboy yanks. Keeping the money in the country, easier support/warranty etc if required.

It looks like it would be GFB/Kartboy though out of the lot for 5 speed boxes, or the OEM short shifter at crackpipe prices.

God knows, once the shifter boot is over it looks aren't going to count for much.

Nice of you to be so patriotic although I don't think there's going to be much going wrong with a piece of steel.

Ended up doing the following, should restore some life/feel to the box, 6 speed still out of reach unfortunately.

- GFB Short Shifter
- New Knob, as above
- New Bush kit - Ultrex
- Redline Smurfblood

To go further, i think gearbox mounts/bushings? Positive shift kit?

There was another knob, $160 bux - nice bling.

Positive shift kit actually did the trick on mine.
