Default wrx sti oil

Hi i just brought myself a version 6 sti it has 93000km on the clock and has had logbook services on time, its in due for service soon the last owner who had it used castrol oil.
What would be better to use a synthetic oil or a non-synthetic oil and what in your opnion would be the best oil to use , it has been tuned with a aftermarket ECU currently running 17psi on a stock turbo

thanks

Full synthetic.

Something like 10w40.

Are you doing it yourself or taking to a workshop?

Nah its a valid question. Usual P-WRX banter won't apply in this thread.

As Jezza said, fully synthetic. Pay for quality since its a performance vehicle.

While we're on the topic of servicing, is it due for a timing belt? When was that last done?

i know it's a fair question, just generally opens a can of worms, and turns into a 'best oil debate'

As for useful information, 'what is the best oil?' well theres quite a few very trusted names however you'll pay through the roof for them. Not worth it in my opinion if you plan on doing oil changes regularly.

Any decent 10w40, just no coles brand shit.

And BAM! There it is.

Use a good quality/known brand non-synthetic oil of the viscosity/weight specified either in the manual or as advised by the engine builder, and change it every 5-10k km's.

That's all there is to it.

If you have just purchased the car and it is sitting on 93,000kms I would probably err on the side of caution and just bite the bullet. Drop 2K at a good workshop (MMS, S-Technic etc and do the full major service anyway. It is a 13/14 year old car after all.

Timing belt, water pump, Gear box/diff oils, Coolant/clutch/brake flush etc

Unless of course lots of the above has been done recently in the service history.

Everyone will have a differing opinion on their favourite oil. My opinion (unless you are servicing the car yourself), find the mechanic you trust and want to deal with. Then let them use what they believe is the best for your car.
RUSSGT, TROLLEY and grape juice like this.

its been recently serviced at around 90000km but its due for a major service, its in perfect condition the guy has kept in mint condition and still running on a stock klutch which is working perfectly but i think the timing belt and all the fluids are in due for a change
