GC8 gearbox
hi guys and gals
i am hoping you guys can help me out bug time here. Ok so my problem is that i have a 3.99 5 speed box and i have chucked 3rd gear. So my question is, I would like to install a 6 speed what would i have to do to complete this and where would i go to get the gear? If it is too much work my next choice is getting a dog box and where would i purchase this? Thank you guys for you time and help |

Dog box gear kit, shift forks etc are purchased through Albins gears, Pfitzner gears, Modena Engineering among others. Then they are installed in your existing case with your existing transfer gears, Final drive gears and diffs. 5 speeds run to about $8000 by the time you set it all up. 6 speed dogbox is approx double. Essential for racing but not ideal for street use and unable to be engineered for street use (in W.A. at least)
6 Speed synchro would be a better option for street use. There's a number of wreckers and importers that sell them, or scour the forums. I no longer sell them unless I do the whole job of installing it as well. |

would it be worth putting a 6 speed synchro in instead of a original 5 speed synchro or the 5 speed dog box? ive only heard that 6 speed boxes are stronger then the 5 speed boxes

What are the plans for the car?
If racing/tracking at all, (and you plan on keeping the car for a while) then yes I would. Rather than continue to possibly break the 5 speed over and over. If just street driving, then depends how deep your pockets are. The cost of the 6 speed swap (box, matching diff, clutch, labour etc) is essentially half the cost of a whole GC8. Not worth it for just a street car IMO. Hence why I haven't bothered... You are unlikely to break the 6 speed if that's what you are asking? People run 500hp+ without any dramas.
