Subaru's ECU logic revolves around a knock feedback strategy. Each knock event decrements a global value (in simple terms). This value is used across base timing, advance and to some degree fueling to help "detune" the engine to avoid knock. Once the engine detects a serious knock event, it will take a while to "re-learn" itself back to its factory calibration level or even its modified calibration. |

If mass knock events are causing the fluctuations it wont be long under the bogging down and running junk is the lesser of his issues anyhow.

The issue might be as basic as a dodgey crank or cam sensor - they can go intermittent and be hard to diagnose without an OBD scan.
Throwing parts at your car in the hope of fixing it is just stupidity.

Nah im still here, and will indeed take the car somewhere to get looked at but MMS are so far from me that I would have to try take a day off work and drive up there.
Is that TOKYO MOTORSPORTS still about?, upon googling on ECUTEK Tuners in W.A they were mentioned and MMS. The Reason I ask is Tokyo are Much closer to me. Its running stuttery all the time now,I just want it sorted so will pay up and take it somewhere to get professionally looked at. It seems to be at its worst at the start of every gearchange, like will stutter on take off then smooth out a bit, change to second gear ,splutters/ bogs again, smooths out a bit and so forth through all gear changes. Tokyo MS is in Welshpool so MMS is a 20min drive up Tonkin to Malaga, in reality it's not that much further... However as Teejay said already mentioned they can't really help as they're EVO specialists. (they do BRZ/86's now though but)
