Default Gc8 Gearbox

Now that I have a start date I've been looking at scoobys again seen a cheapish gc8 but they mention the 4the gear grinding when shifting into it, I'm taking a guess that this is the synchromesh, what would you do in this situation get it rebuilt or get a new one/ one out of a wrecker and what prices roughly would I be looking.
Thanks guys

Fill with Redline Lightweight Shockproof gear oil.
If that doesnt help, get a 6 speed installed.

Budget $6k.

Save more money and buy a gc8 with a 6sp already in it.

There will be a lot better condition gc8's on the market for a decent price, don't buy one that already has problems with the gearbox.

Yeah, I'd wait for one with no glaring issues... I know the one you're talking about is particularly cheap but it'll probably cost you more in the long run vs. one that's been well looked after.

Why not keep driving your peacock into the ground and save your cash so your not scraping the bottom of the bucket. Sure the parts vendors and wOrkshops will be hating in me now but it kinda would be a better Idea dont you think?
