Default What's that button

In my 2000 Forester there is a small button in the centre console near the Gear stick. Has a symbol on it like the a/c symbol it also has the word HOLD. When switched on a light in the dash lights up but can't actully work out what it has done any info would be appreciated

i think it holds it in that same gear for a longer period of time, i assume its and auto for this otherwise i have no idea. alot of autos have these, call them, power button, ecomony, hwy ect don't really see the point in haveing them, buthave been told, gd for towing heavyish trailer/ loads up hills it won't change soo soon..

is your car auto??
if yes, it would be the button to hold on the gear you wishes
to remain on , if i'm not mistaken
(ie: when the car in 3rd gear, you wouldnt want the car to change to 4th gear automatically, push on the hold button and the car will remain in 3rd gear)

i could be wrong..>>>>>>>>

Read the owners manual, i am sure that it's keeps the car in one gear to help in icey conditions.

you use it to hold the lower gears longer on slippery surfaces.

Sethor is on the right track, Has I'm led to believe, the button is for icey conditions. It works by holding the auto in 2nd gear (to aviod wheelspin) whilst taking of from the stop position, it will then change up gears as per normal as speed increases... Try it on wet weather, its shits commodore ute owners off!!!
