Flashing lights and power loss

Hey guys, last night whilst driving I noticed the tacos sitting at 0, rev and speed. Then they would randomly jump back to where they were supposed to be and go back to zero constantly. The AT oil light and power lights were also flashing and eventually the car was chugging, stereo cut out and the car was ticking by the time I came to a stop..

Any ideas?

is your alternator /alternator belt faulty?

sounds like your battery went flat. does it start now?

similar thing happened to me last weekend because my power steering/alternator belt had failed and the battery slowly drained whilst driving

Sounds like your alternator is on it's way out. Same thing happened in my work car a few months back.

When I go to start it, it's just making a really fast ticking noise

It I get a jump start do you guys think I'd be able to get it home? Or will it break down on me while driving?

yep almost certain your battery is dead then.. which means your alternator or alternator belt has failed.

if you need to drive it then you need to fully charge the battery before you set off. jump start will merely enable you to start the car but the fuel pump etc will drain the battery whilst you drive and it will just die on you. this happened to me on albany hwy last week!

so find someone with a battery charger and get as much charge into your battery before you set off.

Aww damn it!

I don't have the means to get it fully charged before I set out

Double post :P

I got it jump started and it had enough power in it to make the 30 minute voyage home to konk out in the drive way luckily

On a related note does anyone have an alternator for sale? :P

Picked up some brakes from this guy a while back. Charges reasonably. Should have a few.

Have you checked the tension on the alternator belt? Is it tight? Is the belt still there??
